QUALITY

The Quality Utilization Advisory Group accepted the following definition of quality to guide its actions and strategic health planning.

"Good quality means providing patients with appropriate services in a technically competent manner, with good communication, shared decision making and cultural sensitivity." (IOM, Crossing The Quality Chasm)

The definition is further expressed as six aims - safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable health care.
